The Modern Gentleman, Cooking and Entertaining With Sean Kanan, Cookbook Interview & a recipe for pappardelle gemelle !
I had the most delicious conversation with daytime’s baddest bad boy, the one and only, The Modern Gentleman: Sean Kanan ( aka Deacon Sharpe of The Young and The Restless/ Bold and the Beautiful ) author, actor producer and self taught gourmet chef.
I had a few very specific questions for him but somehow passionate conversation with this funny and captivating man just took over and before you know it two hours just flew away…
We did manage to get one answer down on paper:
Florentina: What would you have for your last supper on Earth ?
Sean Kanan: Egg rolls, Barbecue spare ribs, Oreo Cookie Milkshake, KFC drumsticks dunked in mashed potatoes, gravy and slaw while watching a movie in bed.
I love to ask this question because the answers are never what you would expect them to be – and it goes to prove my point every time: It is always back to the table and back to the bed! True story!
The bottom line is this : you need to get the book and you need to give a copy of this book to every man in your life so that they may learn and understand how to treat the women in their lives.
” The Modern Gentleman, Cooking and Entertaining with Sean Kanan ” is his first cookbook that I stayed up all night reading, word by word – Not only because I like to know what the heck it is that I’m talking about but because I was actually fully captivated by each page and his fantastic writing style.
No it wasn’t the spices nor his sexy photo that got me hooked but the fact that this is a highly educational and very important book!
From page one he takes today’s man back to school teaching all the things that us women hope and wish our date already has in his DNA. From manners to dating and setting the table and the mood at home, to picking the engagement ring and behaving as a gentleman, this bad boy is teaching men how to Win with sage advice: ” It’s not the size of the theater, it’s the talent on the stage “
The cookbook also has a nice range of recipes a lot of them inspired by Sean’s stay in Italia while competing as a celebrity contestant on Ballardo con le Stelle ( The Italian version of Dancing with the Stars).
Like honey out of a comb Sean’s passion for cooking, life and love oozes from every single page.
From Pappardelle Gemelle , Lobster Mac & Cheese to Cannolis – the only problem with this book will be deciding what to make first – I’m having this dilemma right now !
I honestly love everything about this book, it is one of a kind and without a doubt the one cook book every man and woman should have on their book shelf.
” The Modern Gentleman offers women a front row seat in the theater of the male psyche and throws back the curtain.”
I also love a lot about the man behind the book, besides our common passion for cooking and family he is clearly a real genuine person in a town full of fakes. He recently traveled to Washington DC to encourage Members of Congress to create anti-bullying legislation and for that I applaud and respect him enormously.
Please stop by to meet him at one of his upcoming book signings! Check the attached calendar at the end of the post.
Try this recipe for pappardelle gemelle next time you want to cook something delicious:
- 1 lb papardelle 1 cup of canned artichokes diced
- 2 cloves of fresh garlic peeled/chopped fresh grated Parmesan to taste
- cup ¼ chopped Italian parsley ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- Extra virgin olive oil
- 2 TBSP Sea Salt
- 2 links of sausage (chicken turkey or duck)
Fill a large pot with 5 quarts of cold water and sea salt then bring to a boil. Cook pasta Al Dente. This should take between 9-12 minutes once the water has come to a boil.
While water is boiling grill sausage links. This can be done in about 8-10 minutes with an electric grill. Once sausage has been cooked slice into ¼ inch pieces and set aside. Just as the sausage is about to finish, saute artichokes in two tablespoons of olive oil adding garlic after a minute. Saute for another two minutes over medium heat.
Add sausage and artichokes into pasta. Drizzle with olive oil then add red pepper flakes. Toss ingredients together delicately so as not to tear the pasta. Serve in individual bowls with chopped parsley to garnish and Parmesan cheese to taste.
Rigatoni or any other big noodle works well too. You can cut down on the pepper flakes if you want it less spicy. Fresh pasta is always best, but box pasta will work too as long as you don’t over cook it.
Gluten free: Use wide rice noodles instead of pappardelle
