What better way to unwind on a sunny California Thanksgiving Day then with a cold pitcher of Orange Cranberry Sangria ? I am on a cranberry kick and the smell of orange zest makes me do the happy dance. Oh, they smell so fresh and so clean!
For this sangria I infused the cranberries with oranges and hints of cloves, before pressing the juice out of them and mixing it up with the red wine.
If you have the time to throw some cranberries in ice cube trays the night before, it definitely makes for a festive fun presentation. But after a few glasses who’s gonna notice your cute cranberry ice cubes anyways ? haha Just saying kids!
You see I think about things like that, but then again you know your own family. I’m still debating on the cranberry cubes hehehe
Cranberry Orange Sangria Recipe
(Makes 1 pitcher)
2 c Cranberries
The juice from 1 large orange, organic
The zest from 1 orange, organic
3 whole cloves
1 bottle good red wine or rose
1/3 c Maple syrup
3 mandarin oranges, sliced for garnish
Sparkling water, optional
In a small sauce pan bring 1 1/2 c of cranberries, cloves, orange zest and orange juice to a simmer. Stir in the maple syrup and allow to cook for about 5 minutes until all cranberries have popped. Allow to cool. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh pressing on the cranberries to extract as much juice as possible.
In a pitcher filled with ice cubes combine the red wine and the strained cranberry juice, adjust seasonings to your taste with more maple syrup. Serve over ice, garnish with a couple of orange slices and some of the reserved cranberries.
