This healthy strawberry salsa recipe is nature showing off in all its splendor through perfect flavors and textures.
I made a batch to spoon over some tuna poke last night, but I felt I should really post the strawberry salsa recipe on its own as I will be using it in different recipes this summer. So for the sake of simplicity and so i don’t have to retype it every single time I use it, now you have it stored here on the blog anytime you might want to reference it.
There is no rocket science involved, but you will need some pretty amazing organic strawberries. We are looking for perfectly ripe, sweet strawberries with a beautiful texture to perfectly mingle with the chile peppers, cilantro and citrus juices.
What makes this strawberry salsa recipe stand out from all the rest, is a touch of freshly squeezed orange juice mixed in with the lime juice. It is magic you guys, you’ll see !
If you aren’t particularly fond of cilantro, just use thinly sliced fresh basil instead and garnish with basil blossoms. Basically give your strawberry salsa an Italian spin.
I of course us the term “ recipe “ loosely in this scenario, as of course it is such a simple mix of ingredients that requires no cooking really, but tasting and adjusting seasonings to your heart’s desire. I just felt I needed to say that before the recipe detectives hunt me down on google, you know how it goes in this business 😉
Grilled chicken or fish are absolutely perfect to be dressed up with the strawberry salsa just before serving. But the real magic is in spooning it over fresh sashimi, and that is what I’ll have for you later this week. Between you and I, I’ve been dreaming about a huge platter of sashimi in my face, using this exact strawberry salsa recipe to finish it off and some cilantro blossoms for garnish. Tough as I said, fresh basil would be amazing in here too.
Just in case your strawberries aren’t super sweet, you can add a touch of honey to balance out the sweet and sour final notes of the strawberry salsa.
Note worthy: strawberries seem to always be one of the most contaminated with pesticides and chemicals, so buy organic whenever possible. Here is the 2016 dirty dozen with strawberries in the lead, ahead of apples. Yikes !

- 1 lb fresh strawberries
- 1 green chile pepper diced or sliced
- 2 scallions diced
- 1 lime Juiced
- 1/2 small Orange juiced
- 1/3 c fresh cilantro leaves or basil leaves
- Sea salt to taste
- A drizzle of honey optional
- Cilantro or basil blossoms for garnish
Rinse the strawberries well and cut them in half lengthwise. Discard the core and the leaves. Dice the strawberries into small dice.
In a mixing bowl gently toss together the diced strawberries, chile pepper, scallions, lime juice and freshly squeezed orange juice. Season with a pinch of sea salt and adjust seasonings with more honey or lime juice to your taste.
Sprinkle the strawberry salsa with the fresh cilantro leaves and blossoms and serve over fish or grilled chicken.
